How to repot without the meltdown

Repotting is a plant's moving day — stressful, necessary, and easy to get wrong. Here's the calm version.

One size up, never more

Too big a pot holds too much soil, which holds too much water, which rots the roots. Go up one inch in diameter, max.

Do it in spring

Plants recover fastest while actively growing. Repot in early spring, tease out the roots, fresh mix, and skip the fertilizer for a month.
